What are Florida CGC exam questions like?

DBPR states that construction examinations are open book and consist of multiple-choice questions. Its Candidate Information Booklet says questions have four alternative answers and are equally weighted. Candidates are responsible for obtaining the current Examination Content Information and Reference List for the examination they schedule.

Practice the process, not just the answer. On an open-book exam, preparation includes knowing the material, recognizing what a question is asking, and becoming familiar with the approved references you will use during the examination.

Business & Finance

Practice the business and financial management concepts covered by the applicable DBPR examination content information.

Contract Administration

Build question practice around contracts, administration, licensing, permits, scheduling, and related content areas.

Project Management

Practice construction methods, materials, tools, equipment, safety, and reading plans and specifications.

Practice by learning objective

ATHENA is designed to do more than show whether you selected the right letter. After answering, you can review the explanation and supporting reference information, save questions for later, and use performance data to identify concepts that need more work.

Original practice questions — not leaked exam questions

ATHENA practice content is intended to help you prepare for the published examination content. It is not presented as actual DBPR examination material. Official examination questions are not something candidates should expect to obtain as a legitimate study resource.

Example practice question

A contractor is reviewing a project estimate and wants to determine the amount of profit included in the selling price after direct job costs are accounted for. Which calculation best represents gross profit?

  1. Selling price minus direct job cost
  2. Direct job cost divided by selling price
  3. Overhead divided by direct job cost
  4. Selling price plus direct job cost

Answer: A. Gross profit is the selling price less the direct costs attributable to the job. The example illustrates the style of reasoning ATHENA uses: understand the concept and distinguish it from related financial measures.

Know the official exam structure

DBPR identifies Business & Finance, Contract Administration, and Project Management as examination parts for Division I contractors. Its current construction examination information also states that construction examinations are open book and multiple choice. The official Examinations at a Glance document lists 120 scored questions and 6.5 hours for Business & Finance, and the applicable examination content information should be checked for the specific trade examination.

Because examination information and approved reference lists can change, confirm current requirements with DBPR before scheduling your exam.
